I know you have
heard about astrology. Maybe some of you are familiar with astrology or even
get consultation from astrologers.
But, are you
aware that there are two popular approaches in astrology?
Let’s explore
the differences between these two – tropical astrology (western astrology) and sidereal
astrology (eastern astrology).
Tropical Astrology
Tropical
astrology is mostly known as Western astrology. It’s the most familiar form of
astrology to people.
This form of
astrology defines the zodiac based on the positions of the Sun relative to the
Earth over the course of the year.
The zodiac is
divided into twelve equal sections, or signs.
The twelve signs
of the tropical zodiac are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra,
Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.
Tropical
astrology has been used for thousands of years in many different cultures and
has evolved over time.
It is often used
as a tool for personality analysis, prediction of future events, and to
understand human relationships and compatibility.
"Sidereal astrology is primarily used in Indian and Vedic astrology."
Sidereal Astrology
Sidereal
astrology, on the other hand, is based on the fixed stars and uses the actual
positions of the constellations in the sky.
Here, the zodiac
is defined based on the position of the stars in the background of the Sun,
rather than the Sun itself.
The sidereal
zodiac is divided into twelve equal sections, just like the tropical zodiac. But
the signs in tropical astrology are one sign ahead of the signs in sidereal
astrology during the course of the year.
Why? Because the
fixed stars are not subject to the same precession that the Earth experiences.
Sidereal
astrology is primarily used in Indian and Vedic astrology.
It is often used
for purposes similar to tropical astrology, such as personality analysis and
prediction of future events.
But it is also
used for spiritual growth, the karma, and destiny of individuals.
"Tropical astrology is heavily associated with Greek and Roman culture."
The Differences
The main
difference between the two systems is their interpretation of the positions of
the planets.
Another difference
between sidereal and tropical astrology is their respective zodiac systems. The
tropical zodiac is based on the changing seasons, while the sidereal zodiac is
based on the fixed stars.
And also, tropical astrology is heavily associated with Greek and Roman culture, while sidereal astrology has been heavily influenced by Indian and Vedic culture.
Conclusion
I was not
familiar with sidereal astrology until I landed on KRS Channel unexpectedly a
few years ago.
And these are
what I have learnt about the differences between tropical astrology and
sidereal astrology so far.
Frankly
speaking, I found that sidereal astrology is much more complex than tropical
astrology.
But I am very
passionate in gaining in depth knowledge about it anyway.
If you are very
keen on learning astrology, I would recommend you to check KRS Channel.
Here is one of
his videos.
So, which one are you familiar with, tropical
or sidereal? Let me know in the comment section.
